The only thing is, I would like input on what do they believe parent involvement is, what would they like to see take place or change to better this program.
Resources and information you are seeking
The information and resources I am seeking is learning how important parent involvement is and what are the benefits of parent involvement.
Resources and/or information you have found helpful and insightful
There are many reputable sites that I have found to be very useful and I also found some journals and periodicals that was useful in developing my action plan. When I searched my topic I received a long list of sites that could help but I only used the sites that I knew were the most reputable by looking at their web address. I also have first-hand source from representatives of Head Start that has also been of great assistance to me. These are the sites that I found that help with advocacy action plans:
http://www.nsba.org/Advocacy/Resources/Summer-Advocacy-Brief, www.asha.org, http://ctb.ku.edu/en/tablecontents/sub_section_main_1206.aspx, and http://www.naeyc.org
I have not just limited my research to just these websites but they have truly helped and guided me with my action plan and how to develop it.

I feel parent involvement is when the parents are willing to help in or outside the classroom. This help could range from cutting out projects, making copies, taking care of book orders or reading to children and/or running centers. It also includes parents helping out with school events (bookfairs, picnics) or participate on boards like PTA.
ReplyDeleteI think some parents feel unless they can come into the classroom they are not involved. I think it is important for teachers to have sign up sheets with all the different ways they can help and let them choose. For example I have toy washing (they take toys home on the weekend) prep art projects, donate supplies for class parties etc. I think this helps parents see the different ways they can help out!
Hi I think that parent invovment is any kind of interaction we can get from parents. It can be as simple as sending in supplies needed, doing a book or game at home with the child, spending time in the classroom. I think that all we can do is encourage and praise the parent for what interaction that they are able to contribute. I really feel that if we can get them to spend some quality time with their child at home them we have been successful.
ReplyDeleteOne of the most critical components of parent involvement is building a responsive, respectful relationship with your families. Many doors will be opened by them that might remain closed if you foster that type of relationship. My suggestion is that you make sure to offer a variety of activities on different days and at different times so that all families will be able to fit the event into their schedules
ReplyDeleteHi Nakia, a parent’s involvement is very important for positive changes in any program. Children can develop better if their parents are with them through any challenges that may occur. Now most of the parents are in school and working, that makes it harder for them to be involved with their children. However, with advocates like you encouraging them, they will think about how important it is to be involved with their children then I am sure they will find time for them. You’re right there are too many resources that can help us to achieve our goals on any advocacy plan. Good luck in your presentation.
